The search for answering the simple question "what is food?" is quite intriguing because I have never dwelled into the behind the scenes of food. My favorite quote from the introduction is that "The food we eat and its preparation define who we are culturally, socially, economically, and politically." Food encompasses and shapes up everything around us.
